The Heat: Haiti Crisis

Violence erupts again in the capital city of Port-au-Prince, days after Haiti’s transitional council names a new prime minister.

Gunmen launched a string of fresh attacks, burning homes and exchanging gunfire with police. That was one of the biggest outbreaks of violence since the appointment of Haiti’s new prime minister. The country’s transitional council chose a little known former sports minister – Fritz Bélizaire – to succeed Ariel Henry. Henry resigned after Haiti’s armed gangs united in opposition to the government.
