It is clear that the government of the United States of America is run by a team of gangsters—if not low-level thugs. I am not the only one saying this. I have just noted that the renowned Professor Jeffrey Sachs—an economist and political scientist, Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University in New York, former Director of the Earth Institute, and former advisor to the UN Secretary-General—very recently used this very same word: “We are in the hands of gangsters, we are not in the hands of a constitutional system.” I, have also used the term “mafia-like” to describe the U.S. President. And I recently encountered this same descriptor in the words of Francesca Albanese, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Palestinian territories, who characterized the sanctions leveled against her (and against judges of the International Criminal Court) by the U.S. government as “mafia-style measures” (see below).
“We are in the hands of gangsters, we are not in the hands of a constitutional system”
A gang led by a narcissistic megalomaniac—an immature figure in the throes of encroaching senility, possessed of an extremely short attention span. U.S. media outlets described Trump as “unhinged” and “deranged” when, following the U.S. ice hockey team’s victory over Canada at the Winter Olympics last month, “he posted an AI slop of him about to score a goal; shoving Canadian defenders to the ice; and punching one of them before sitting smugly in the penalty box. He then emerges to notch what appears to be the winning goal as U.S. teammates hug him.”
In a very recent instance, a journalist asked him to comment on the fact that “Iran today accused the United States of having bombed a desalination plant within its territory, adding that such an act could pave the way for further strikes against non-military infrastructure.” The response from the President of the United States of America: “I know nothing about this desalination plant, other than that if they are complaining about a desalination plant, we are complaining that they are beheading babies [and] cutting women in half”… A typically evasive and disjointed response from Trump.
He himself is surrounded by psychopaths such as Stephen Miller—his Deputy Chief of Staff and principal advisor, and the architect of his cruel and deadly anti-immigration policy. (“Psychopathy is not an official diagnosis; however, the term is used to describe traits such as a lack of empathy, aggression, and duplicity.”) This is the very same man who stated, shortly after the illegal abduction of the Venezuelan president: “The United States is using its military to secure our interests unapologetically in our hemisphere. We’re a superpower.” And regarding Greenland: “Nobody’s going to fight the United States militarily over the future of Greenland”. Adding: “You can talk all you want about international niceties and everything else. But we live in a world, in the real world, that is governed by strength, that is governed by force, that is governed by power.” And it was his wife who called for a third presidential term for Trump—something expressly prohibited by the United States Constitution.
Trump is also surrounded by criminals such as Charles Kushner, who served prison time for committing “one of the most loathsome, disgusting crimes that I prosecuted when I was U.S. attorney” —a sentiment voiced by Republican Chris Christie, Chairman of the Republican Governors Association, who oversaw Trump’s initial transition team. The father-in-law of Trump’s daughter, Kushner was pardoned by Trump and appointed ambassador to Paris—where he distinguished himself through his arrogance and his ignorance of French history.

Arrogant and warmonger figures such as Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina—Trump’s most ardent supporter—who has just designated Cuba as the next target in the sights of the United States of America. “We’re devastating the enemy. I’m not looking for a fair fight. If we get in a fight, I want to win it, and win it quick […] The liberation of Cuba is upon us. It’s just a matter of time now. […] We’re marching through the world. We’re cleaning out the bad guys. We’re going to have relationships with new people that will make us prosperous and safe,” […] “Donald Trump is resetting the world in a way nobody could have dreamed of a year ago. He is the greatest commander-in-chief of all time. Our military is the best of all time. Iran is going down, and Cuba is next […] WE’RE GONNA BLOW THE HELL OUT OF CUBA.”
Criminals such as Scott Bessent, the U.S. Treasury Secretary who “nonchalantly” admitted during an interview in Davos on January 10 that “it was U.S. policy to crush the Iranian economy, to destroy the currency, to create a dollar shortage, to create a shortage of imports so that people would go out onto the streets, and then with a little smirk on his face he says we call this economic statecraft and he says it’s going in a very good direction”. Does this remind you of anything? Allende’s Chile, and the economic sabotage orchestrated by the United States prior to the September 1973 deadly coup d’état. Bessent knows the ropes. As a hedge fund manager, he amassed a fortune by betting on the collapse of the British pound in 1992 (alongside George Soros) and by speculating against the Japanese yen in 2013—wealth that allows him to live a lavish life. “He knows nothing about being a Treasury Secretary. He’s there to destroy the Iranian currency,” stated Professor Jeffrey Sachs.
These Iranian protest movements, which began on December 28, are described by Chas Freeman—former U.S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia from 1989 to 1992 (where he managed the Gulf War), former Assistant Secretary of Defense, former President of the Middle East Policy Council, Co-Chair of the U.S.-China Policy Foundation, and Life Member of the Board of Directors of the Atlantic Council—as follows: “Once the protests began, the people with the Starlink links began to agitate to move them from peaceful protests into violent riots. We’ve had a huge propaganda campaign, greatly exaggerating the number of deaths in Iran on the part of protesters or maybe agents of foreign interests who were exploiting the protest. We know that those claims are exaggerated […] this is yet another case where it’s right out of the playbook that you immiserate people. You make them so wretched that they feel obliged to protest and demand change from their own government, some kind of response to the misery that you’re causing. And then you say to them, as is what we did say apparently in these negotiations, ‘Look, you got to give up your ability to defend yourselves, get rid of your missiles or we’ll bomb you.’ And of course, if you get rid of your missiles, we’ll probably bomb you, too.”
Thus, when certain Europeans applaud Trump for removing Maduro or assassinating Khamenei, they are applauding, admiring, and identifying with gangsters who show a total disregard for international law. A generation of European “leaders”—fearful, incompetent, ignorant, and utterly powerless, in deed or even in words—whom the United States mocks and humiliates at every opportunity because, for the latter, only brute force matters—with the exception of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who clearly condemned the attack by Israel and the United States against Iran, thereby incurring Trump’s wrath.

Labeling these few key European nations as “vassals,” Chas Freeman commented on “a ridiculous statement from President Macron who demanded the Iranians to negotiate in good faith as though they were the ones who were managing a deception. Very hard to understand unless you understand his political weakness and the strength of the Zionist lobby as well as Islamophobia in France which is very strong.”
It is worth noting the presence in France—and across Europe—of two powerful pro-Israel lobbies: the European Leadership Network (ELNET) and UN Watch.
Another renowned scholar in the field of international politics—John Mearsheimer, a political scientist at the University of Chicago—offered a similar assessment regarding the deployment of the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle to the Eastern Mediterranean: “President Macron is not very smart. Who cares about a French aircraft carrier, right? He’s going to have to park that aircraft carrier far away from Iran. Otherwise the Iranians will sink it to the bottom of the Jolly Roger.
He was so eager to send his troops into Ukraine to be part of a coalition of the willing and that never happened.”
Past July, 114 French lawyers submitted a request to the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) for an investigation into the role of French officials “in the commission of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide” by Israeli forces against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. Named are President Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister Francois Bayrou, Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, Minister of the Armed Forces Sebastien Lecornu and 19 lawmakers of the National Assembly’s European Affairs Committee.

“It has been demonstrated that the French authorities knew that they were (and still are) participating in the commission of the crimes in question, by aiding and abetting the perpetrators. Their knowledge of the consequences of their actions or conduct establishes the mens rea required for personal liability in cases of complicity by aiding and abetting.”
Anne Savinel-Barras, president of Amnesty International France, stated that these arm supplies—secretly authorized by the French government—were being carried out “in total opacity and in complete contradiction” with recent statements by French President Emmanuel Macron, who had expressed his horror at the humanitarian situation in Gaza. Much like with the gangsters in the United States, the French Parliament was being sidelined. Bastien Lachaud, a Member of Parliament for progressive party La France Insoumise and a member of the parliamentary defense committee, stated that “his party had been questioning the government about arms exports to Israel for months without satisfying answers.”
A similar situation prevailed in England, which “played a key role in military collaboration with Israel, despite internal opposition,” and whose air force carried out “more than 600 surveillance missions over Gaza throughout the duration of the genocide, sharing intelligence with Israel.” In April 2024, its Foreign Secretary, David Cameron, privately threatened the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, to “cut off funding to the Court if it proceeded to execute arrest warrants against Israeli leaders.”
This was revealed in the October 2025 report The Gaza Genocide: A Collective Crime, in which its author—Francesca Albanese, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Palestinian territories—identifies 63 countries and 48 private companies enabling Israel to violate international law. She takes particular aim at British Prime Minister Keir Starmer who, given his background as a human rights lawyer, should know better than to deny that a genocide is currently underway in Gaza.
It is, therefore, not surprising that in July 2025, the U.S. gangsters imposed severe sanctions against Albanese—just as they did against the judges and prosecutors of the International Criminal Court. Most recently, certain European nations—including France and Germany—attacked Albanese by distorting her remarks, labeling them antisemitic, only to withdraw their complaints when the association Juristes pour le respect du droit International (Lawyers for the Respect of International Law) filed a complaint with the Paris Public Prosecutor, accusing France’s Foreign Minister of disseminating false information about Albanese.
Echoing the points raised at the beginning of this article, Albanese concludes: “Palestine allows us to see what becomes of the law when it falls into the hands of power.” Gaza, Venezuela, Greenland, Iran, Cuba—who will be next?
