On Jan 3, 2021, the eve of a British court’s decision on whether to extradite WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to the U.S. to stand trial on charges of espionage, the NYC Free Assange coalition held a rally at the British Consulate in Manhattan. This is the intervention of Kim Ives, a journalist and editor with Haiti Liberté newspaper, which has been a media partner of WikiLeaks since 2011. Haiti Liberté has published dozens of articles based on almost 2,000 secret U.S. Embassy cables, which WikiLeaks provided the Haitian weekly that year. Ives underlines the tremendous contribution that Julian Assange has made to mankind by providing a glimpse of the truth that is so often concealed behind curtains of secrecy.
Kim Ives was introduced by Chuck Zlatkin, the Legislative and Political Director of the New York Metro Area Postal Union (APWU) and coordinator of NYC Free Assange.
The full recording of the livestreamed one-hour event can be found on the FaceBook page of NYC Free Assange or on the coalition’s website at NYCFreeAssange.org.
