An uninterruptible power supply is a simple device, but it does have some subtleties. Proper configuration and installation of a UPS can increase its efficiency and extend its life.
How and where to install
The UPS is a fairly unpretentious device and does not have any special installation requirements. Like any other electronic devices, the uninterruptible power supply should be protected from overheating and excessive humidity. The uninterruptible power supply is not afraid of cold weather, but it is better not to allow heating above 40 ºС – this reduces the battery life. Therefore, there is no need to install an uninterruptible power supply close to a heating radiator or gas boiler. For the same reason, there is no need to hide the device in blind niches or cover it with something. This will interfere with ventilation and lead to overheating.

If external batteries are connected to the UPS, they must also be provided with a convenient and safe place away from heat sources.
How and what to connect
Different UPS models may have their own connection features. To take these into account, please read the instruction manual.
Be careful when connecting the UPS. The contacts of the uninterruptible power supply can be under voltage of 230 V even when the device is not connected to the mains.
Uninterruptible power supplies for PCs are not suitable in this case. Firstly, boilers often require a pure sine wave. Secondly, the boiler consumes a small current, but it takes a long time to maintain its operation during a power outage – up to several hours. Computer UPSs are not designed for this.

UPS for gas boilers often do not have an internal battery. Therefore, before connecting the boiler to the uninterruptible power supply, you need to assemble and connect the battery. You should be careful here. An error at this stage can lead to failure of the UPS.

If there is more than one battery, they must first be connected. Check your UPS manual to see what the battery voltage should be. If the voltage at the UPS input is equal to the voltage of a separate battery, the battery should be assembled by connecting batteries in parallel. This connection increases the battery capacity.
If the voltage at the UPS input is equal to the sum of the battery voltages, they must be connected in series. This connection increases the battery voltage.
You can combine both methods. For example, the voltage at the UPS input is 36 V and you need to assemble a capacious battery of 9 12 V batteries. In order to increase the voltage to the required level, the batteries are connected in series in threes. The three resulting elements are connected in parallel.

The batteries must be connected with multi-core wires with a cross-section of at least 6 mm 2 . If the power of the equipment connected to the UPS is above 300 W, wires should be used with an even larger cross-section – 10-25 mm 2 . The UPS consumes high current. With a load of 1000 W, the current on 12 V batteries will be more than 80 A. To prevent the wire from overheating, at this current it must have a cross-section of 25 mm 2 . For the same reason, the length of the wires should be minimal – there is no need to locate the UPS far from the battery. In this case, tension on the wires must not be allowed – they must be laid freely.
The connections between the battery terminals and wires must be strong and reliable, with a large contact area. It is advisable to put and crimp lugs on the ends of the cables.

After assembling the battery, connect it to the UPS. The uninterruptible power supply must be disconnected from the network and turned off.
When connecting the terminals, pay close attention to the polarity. Use colored wires to avoid confusing “+” and “-”. Shorting the battery may cause a fire. Reversing the polarity when connecting to the UPS can lead to its failure.
After connecting the battery, connect the load to the UPS, then connect the UPS to the mains power and turn it on. Check the instructions for further steps.
Computer
A computer UPS is easy to connect. Turn off the computer, unplug the socket. Make sure the UPS is turned off and not plugged in. Connect your computer to the UPS.
