Chris Martin is the president of Martin Group International, an Irregular Warfare Consulting Firm, based near Washington, DC. He was a U.S. Contingent Commander in Haiti under the MINUSTAH and has seen duty in Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Mali.

He joins English language editor Kim Ives to discuss his recent article “The Bukele Escalation: Parallel Operations and the Kinetic Limits of the Salvadoran Model in Haiti,” which is cited in the Haïti Liberté article this week “El Salvador’s President Bukele Launches Illegal War in Haiti, with the Support of Dominican Troops.”

On the basis of his experience in Afghanistan, Martin explains how the armed groups in Haiti are an insurgency, organically born in the neighborhoods where they are based, and that it will be very difficult for the Salvadoran troops sent by Bukele, or the U.S.-concocted, UN-blessed Gang Suppression Force (GSF), to defeat them.
