Oxycodone is a strong opiate analgesic available only through prescription for individuals suffering moderate to severe pain such s post-operative pain, traumatic injury pain, or cancer pain. It is an opiate antagonist that produces its effect by acting on the opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord and lowering the perception of pain. Obtainable as both IR and ER preparations, oxycodone is administered orally using tablets, soluble or insoluble morphine prepared in conjunction with other constituents such as paracetamol.
