And now, let’s move on to Lightroom 5. I’m glad that Adobe added some useful new features to Lightroom. However, as is the case when I update Photoshop, I experienced some performance issues. The following sections are based on my experience with the program after installing Lightroom 5.
If I were to compare the UI between Lightroom 5 and its predecessor, I’d say that Lightroom 5’s interface is prettier, but less powerful. For example, the “tweak” button is more visible in the “Done” section of the “View” menu. It is possible to show or hide the toolbar using the top slider. However, there’s no zoom slider. Accessing a “skin” for the Lightroom interface is a screen switcher that only works if you go to the “Window” menu and click “Document.” For those of us who love to use “Photoshop” as a platform for their images, we’d miss the ability to select different predefined palettes, brushes, and other options from Lightroom’s palette. This was an option in previous versions of the software. I don’t like the fact that, in Lightroom 5, I lose the ability to save a master web gallery to my computer. In other words, I can’t easily rely on Lightroom to batch web-based images for me. This is just one example of why using the “Photoshop” name and not sticking with a singular version of that program is a bad idea for Adobe.
