Nick Crow TubeDriver is a tube amplifier emulation VST plug-in. In order to start using it, simply copy it to your plugins folder and launch your music software.

In February ’97, amateur musician Nick Crow was studying electronic music, particularly the ’80s electro-synth scene. As his computer could not handle the analog simulation of old analogue synths, he decided to use a tube amp. He found that this, at least partly, could create the familiar sounds he was seeking. It wasn’t until he did some research and bought an AEA PRS-150 amp, and started to understand how the controls actually worked, that he knew what he was doing.
Nick started to recreate the sounds of this tube amp in the computer, applying vintage tube modeling circuits to mimic the sounds of these instruments, and gradually having them give life to the VSTs he was creating. We are then talking about the ‘gear’ stage of the process.
Since then, the project has evolved. Nick’s tube amp modeler has started to be used in several DAWs, and now has the TubeDriver VST plugin.

This is the plug-in you probably already have installed and are just using it wrong. Maybe you are using too many drive settings, try using only a modest amount with the High,Peak and Resonant Low Pass filters at 12db each. Just adjust them until you get a good tone, no matter what it is.
The sound here is really cool, but you don’t need that many settings. Just keep the tweeter open. I have used far less settings than this, and it sounds incredible. It’s the most famous sound from the amp though, and I used to call it ‘tube with yellow light’. The ‘Yello Tone’ All Natural.
I highly recommend updating this plug-in to whatever the new update is. I don’t know what changes were made to it or when, but you won’t regret updating this thing.
Great plug-in, and a good starting point for anyone wanting to plug a tube amp into an audio software. I am a sucker for all things analog, so I use TubeDriver for most of my projects.
The plug-in works well, but sometimes the sounds that it produces are very deep.
Deep is not bad, but sometimes I have to adjust my settings. In fact, I think all tube, amp and bass pedals sound deep at their settings, due to the inherent qualities of the equipment.

After updating the application to version 4.1.5, can not start it. The error: “Failed to set parameter audioFormat”. It happens only when the audio format is set to 5.1. I have tried to remove all audio formats, and reset Audio/DSP settings to default. No use. If I remove the Nick Crow TubeDriver.dll and plug-in, then start it again works.

Please inform us when you can not use stereo mode.
Finally, we would like to check what audio format is set to. Most of our users have several (8 – 13) audio formats set, and the sound system playing those audio formats are stored in the format configuration. I assume this is the problem, but I am not sure.
Sorry, it is available in the Pro version of the application. This version contains all audio formats, including mono and 5.1.I encourage you to check the description of your sound system and the configuration of your audio inputs.

Nick Crow TubeDriver
Nick Crow TubeDriver simulation comes with four types of tubes: 13AX7, 6SN7, 5881 and 6CA7.
Switching between types is done from the main window.
Nick Crow TubeDriver has separate sections for each tube type. Each section has different parameters for each tube type.
Because of the complexity of tubes, these simulators use FORTRAN code.
In this way, you have the possibility to simulate any tube, simply changing the main FORTRAN code.
The simulators also have the possibility to connect/disconnect all sections/tubes from the main FORTRAN code.
Tube Driver has built-in low-pass and high-pass fiter stages.
If you don’t have filters selected, the simulators have one built-in high-pass and one built-in low-pass filter.
The simulators only have a single oscillator.
You can select whether the oscillator is controlled by the “TUBE” parameter or from the “WINDOW” parameter.
