How to use the Insert File(s) Plugin on Blogger and Windows Live Spaces
(Created:09/07/2009)
To use this plugin, you will have to first install the Insert File(s) plugin on Blogger.
This will open a new tab in your browser. Go to Add a New Post.
You’ll see the following, with a link to the Insert File(s) Plugin.
Adding Files
The Insert File(s) plugin on Blogger will open a tab of your browser, then you’ll be presented with the file directory structure to add files to.
You have two choices:
1) Add Files Directly to Blogger
2) Add the Files via an FTP Uploader
*NOTE* If you want to use a different blog provider, you’ll have to modify the code.
Adding Files
1) Add Files Directly to Blogger
Follow the steps in the above screenshot and you’ll create a new entry as you would normally.
Blogger allows you to add files by simply clicking the Add File button from the left pane.
Select the file you want to add, and the Add File button will appear.
Click it.
Click Upload.
It may take a few moments to upload.
Once it’s done, you’ll get a confirmation message. You can continue with your blog entry by clicking the New Post button.
2) Add Files via an FTP Uploader
Log into your FTP software and open the WLW files directory (if
Insert File(s) [32|64bit]
Windows Live Writer inserts the selected file(s) as a blog post. A dialog box will appear prompting the user if they’d like to overwrite the current post. If the user “Cancel”s, the dialog box will disappear and the next dialog box will appear asking if the selected file is a text, HTML, or RTF document. Only one document will be inserted at a time and it will not overwrite the current post.
The plugin has three separate tabs, Files, Fields and Insert. Clicking the Files tab will load the dialog box. The Files tab will only appear if you check “Attach Files” under the Files section of the Options dialog box (under Tools – Options). Clicking the Options tab will open the Options dialog box. In this dialog box, you’ll set the attributes for the attachments.
If the file(s) you want to attach is/are from a non-subscription based site(s), you’ll be prompted to enter account credentials when the plugin loads. If you want to skip this, uncheck the box “Check for Updated User Information” under the “Account” section in the Options dialog box.
When you close the dialog box, Windows Live Writer will insert the document(s) into the current post.
When you close the dialog box, Windows Live Writer will also close itself. You will now see the following dialog box.
I hope it helps,
Paul
