Can I push method calls to controller from a helper in Ruby on Rails?

I am building a data collection tool and need to pass a lot of information to the controller so I can work with the data. I would rather not be calling these methods from the controller because it feels “icky” to use the controller to work with data. I am currently using the helper to call these methods and it works.
I am also using the CanCan gem and it works great.
I would like to know if there is a better way of doing this. In general, how is it possible to have a helper call a controller method?

The controller is for controlling the flow of requests. A helper is meant to generate content. Thus, your approach works fine.
