… It’s a completely new version, but Adobe’s commenting on what they’ve already accomplished, and they say that it’s going to be really good. This is probably much milder than CS6. It’s a great version of Lightroom. It’s simple and doesn’t look as cluttered as the previous version. This is a major step forward, and I can’t wait to see it on the Mac. My only criticism is that some new photo editing tools have been added, and I would prefer to have had a traditional ‘Save for Web” mode, rather than the current mode that sends a photo on its way with a URL. I still prefer that over any of the other new tools.
… Adobe’s done that for a long time now. I don’t see the reason for using a private proxy to download Lightroom, it’s so much easier to just use wget. And if you’re going to use a private proxy, why not use something more specific than http://www.privateproxy.net/en/?

I was impressed to learn that an elementary school in New Orleans has officially switched to Macs. This really is fantastic news. Macs are more of a traditional approach to education, and many schools have jumped on the bandwagon. This segment is not as wide as it should be, and Adobe’s recent move seems to have made the Mac market even more attractive, but that’s ok. The point is that a bit more education is needed so students are better prepared to use computers. Here’s hoping that Adobe’s recent statement about resistance to Apple’s Education platform will have a real effect on that.
Adobe hasn’t changed the price significantly, but I’m not exactly sure why. I speculate that, since Photoshop CS6 replaced Photoshop CS5, they had to balance photographer’s demand for fewer updates and offers against manufacturing and shipping costs. While I’ve been unable to discern whether that’s the case, my best guess is that Adobe is more worried about increases in license sales than profit. It’s fair to call it a contentious update, and one that developers know is far from perfect. I don’t know why Lightroom 5 doesn’t include a similar Quick filter to Photoshop’s Red Eye Fix, which is included in Photoshop CS6. I realize the Quick Fix is useful for others. It will probably be included in Lightroom 5, but it would be a lovely addition.
