Strengths: Laine is an extremely talented player with elite skating ability and stickhandling ability. He plays the game with no fear, driving the net and keeping his head up. He has quick release and outstanding puck-handling skills, as well as the ability to dangle defenders and release a hard, accurate shot.
Weaknesses: As mentioned in the Scouting Guide, a lack of size or power is a concern. Laine’s physical tools are impressive, but they aren’t more than average at this time.
Projection: The prospect pool is as deep and talented as any junior crop in recent memory, so there’s still plenty of time for Laine to make adjustments and improve his game. His strength and speed should be an asset for him at the next level, but he’ll need to learn how to control the puck better and drive to the net more.
