I am a long-time Lightroom user and a relatively new Photoshop user. Sunset Magazine was using LR and the entire staff (including the art director) loved the experience. Then one paparazzo showed up at the studio while Sunset was shooting and used Photoshop. Terrible. If you’re serious about doing things using Photoshop, you get Photoshop. There’s no real Lightroom replacement, although with some clever thinking and time, you can use some of the effects in Photoshop with like-for-like results. The difference between the two is the huge amount of post-production functionality available in Photoshop, but that’s just what we need. Lightroom is great for doing everything else.
With that said, the less functionality you have in the camera app, the less likely you are to run into issues that you don’t know about, like curves reverting, plugins that aren’t working, and plugins that have aged out of support. The only time I’ve met the Lightroom community is when a group of frustrated photographers has treated me like dirt when I let something slip about bugs and support in Photoshop. That said, I’ve met some very kind and helpful people who have invaluable insight into the way the cameras behave. Even the haters act friendly until you tell the world that Nikon sucks or Canon sucks.
That said, I have lost count of the number of times a well-meaning photographer has turned away from Lightroom because they and their clients don’t understand the importance of the post-production processing. I could have changed that in part, but it was hard.

However, one thing you won’t see mentioned is one of the best improvements: there’s now a Content-Aware Crop tool, which lets you crop photos a third time. This tool has been a dream of ours for years!
